Collins is Director of Career Services at Unity College. Her successes include increasing the amount of student career center use by over 200%, coordinating the largest environmental career fair in New England (with over 85 participating employers), supporting an increase in student internship placement by 70% and establishing a grant funded intern partnership with the White Mountain National Forest Service. In addition to her role in Career Services, Collins also instructs a 1-credit professional development course.

MOFGA LANDSCAPE INTERN

The 400acre
MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association) campus isa diverse landscape that supports many events during the course of the year, including the Common Ground Country Fair. We are seeking an intern to tend the various plant collections and actively work to develop the educational infrastructure on the grounds. Day to day activities will familiarize the prospective intern with organic gardening and small scale farm enterprise responsibilities, from planting to harvest. Intern would have the opportunity to carry out their own projects on the grounds, such as a small personal garden, small livestock
project, etc. Orchard, shade tree, perennial bed and annual row crop care will occupy much of the seasonal tasks, with an emphasis on feeding Fair volunteers, providing food and seed
for other events, and creating living educational displays. We also seek to supply the local food banks with surplus gleanings when possible. We are seeking a person with a strong desire to learn, who can work alone and with a diverse crew, to complete projects that will help to inform and inspire gardeners visiting the grounds. Intern is requested to work from June 1st 2016 through October 15th 2016. Hours can be flexible to accommodate school schedule. A minimum committment to 24hrs per week of labor is being requested. Position may require strenuous physical labor, and some work may occur during inclement weather.

A biweekly stipend will be provided. Opportunity to camp on MOFGA’s grounds in designated area. Limited use of MOFGA’s bunkhouse for sleeping, bathing and cooking. Access to wireless connection. Use of MOFGA’s library during regular office hours. Admission to MOFGA’s educational events. Active role in Common Ground Fair
activities.

ABOUT the HEAL (Health, Environment, Agriculture, Labor) Food Alliance: HEAL is a national alliance bringing together various sectors of food and agriculture – farmers, laborers, food service and production workers, with agricultural policy experts, community organizers and activists. HEAL seeks to build a people-powered movement for effective policy change in our national food system, from the corner store to Capitol Hill.

The HEAL Food Alliance’s anchor team includes the Food Chain Workers Alliance, Movement Strategy Center, Real Food Generation, and Union of Concerned Scientists.

About the Administrative Assistant: Working with the HEAL Food Alliance anchor team and under the direction of the Director, provides administrative, budget, communications and outreach support to the work of the alliance. Assists and supports the Director. Schedules and organizes meetings and events, processes financial reimbursements and provides budget tracking support. Assists in communications and outreach to partners regarding HEAL strategies. Provides support for special projects as requested.

HEAL Food Alliance is a fiscally-sponsored project of Movement Strategy Center. This a full-time, exempt, salaried position, based in Oakland, CA and reporting to the Director. Some work will be remote.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job duties/responsibilities of the position are included in, but not limited to the items listed below.

PROGRAM SUPPORT

  • Assures that HEAL objectives, deliverables and commitments are fulfilled in a timely manner and to high professional standards.
  • Oversees and organizes the daily and long-term priorities of the Director.
  • Assists the anchor team with preparations for meetings, conferences, and speaking engagements.
  • Responds to requests for information relating to HEAL Food Alliance activity.
  • Provides on-going support to HEAL Food Alliance participants and workgroups.
  • Organizes and maintains files and databases of members, media citations and event participants.
  • Takes notes at meetings, identifies and tracks conclusions and deliverables.

LOGISTICS SUPPORT

  • Schedules and organizes webinars/phone conferences for workgroup meetings and related events, under instruction of the Director, and advisement from the anchor team.
  • Supports travel arrangements for HEAL anchor team and participants, including booking flights, accommodations, and airport shuttles.
  • Providing logistical support for in-person meetings, including arranging location, confirming room set-up and equipment needs, ordering food and beverages, and providing information to meeting attendees.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

  • Supports the Director by tracking of the HEAL budget and expenditures, provides monthly updates to the anchor team.
  • Communicates with fiscal sponsor regarding contracts and reimbursements.
  • Drafts contracts for independent consultants (based on standard templates)
  • Prepares and submits fully coded check request forms and requests for reimbursement from HEAL anchor team and participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Experienced: The Administrative Assistant must be comfortable working with constituencies with a range of professional experience and literacy levels.
  • Tech Savvy: The Administrative Assistant must be able to utilize common office software and be competent with basic social media.

 

This is a full-time position with excellent benefits. Pay is $20-22 hourly, depending on experience. Some travel may be required.

The Queens Botanical Garden (QBG) is a private non-profit cultural institution located on 39 acres of New York City public land in Flushing, New York. The Garden serves nearly 210,000 visitors each year; a visitor survey reveals that 75% of all visitors speak a language other than English at home. This astounding fact underscores the importance of the Garden’s mission and the challenges and opportunities it faces daily in creating programs, exhibits and landscapes that serve the needs of one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the nation. Queens Botanical Garden’s Children’s Garden sponsored by HSBC enables children ages 2-14 the opportunity to plant, maintain, and harvest vegetables, herbs, and flowers in an outdoor learning environment. The children not only explore various methods of gardening, but also discover their surrounding environment through hands-on activities about birds, insects, trees, solar energy, water conservation, and composting. These positions offer a unique opportunity for individuals with interests in horticulture, education, environmental sustainability and/or non-profit organizations.

 

Responsibilities include:

 Planting, preparation, and maintenance of the Children’s Garden  Working with children and facilitating lessons during programming  Assisting with creation and implementation of environmental education curriculum as needed  Supervising, mentoring, and teaching high school level and above interns.

Ideal candidates will:

 Be a minimum of sophomore in college, pursuing studies in education, botany, environmental studies or related field or has studied one of these fields  Be knowledgeable of basic small-scale vegetable gardening  Have experience working with and teaching children  Have experience supervising, teaching, and motivating interns and volunteers  Be able to work some evenings, and weekends, as mentioned below  Be an enthusiastic and energetic leader in a fast-paced environment  Be self-motivated with the ability to work both alone and in groups  Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Job Description: Forestry Technician Advanced: The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of Forest Management, Sciences Section, is hiring two seasonal forest technicians. The positions will work 40 hours a week assisting with field study establishment and forestry data collection. 15% Data management: Prepare and manage datasets using Microsoft Office products. Enter and review data generated from forest silviculture studies.

5% Literature review: Assist forest ecology team in literature reviews using online web databases, journal access and electronic library resources.

Knowledge Required: Ideal candidates will have some experience in forestry or forest sciences. Candidates should have a strong work ethic and able to work outside daily throughout a range of weather conditions. Candidates should be able to work both in a team environment and independently. Additional qualifications include tree/shrub identification and knowledge of plant communities. Finally, candidates should be proficient with map and compass along with GPS technology.

JOB SUMMARY:
This new position will play a key role in the expansion of CA FarmLink’s innovative Community Development
Financial Institution which is unique in the country in providing small and immigrant farmers with access to capital
and technical assistance. The Loan Processor will manage the loan application intake process, ensuring that
FarmLink receives a complete application package from farmer applicants, supporting timely and efficient
underwriting by loan officers and underwriters. The position will support the planned growth of FarmLink’s Loan
Program in 2016, and the integration of regional field staff into the loan intake process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Customer Service
• Serve as initial point of contact for FarmLink’s Loan Program; effectively represent/sell loan products
• Act as liaison between borrower, regional field staff, loan officer/underwriter and loan services
• Provide customer with timely and periodic status updates of their loan application; return all inquiry calls
within one business day
• Provide technical assistance to farmer applicants in completing applications as necessary
Loan Intake and Data Management
• Collect required documentation from applicants, verify accuracy and completeness, and follow up on
missing items
• Compile documents for applicant loan files and enter information into underwriting system for loan officer
assessment and processing
• Maintain pipeline report and ensure lenders are apprised of updates
• Order credit and title reports; verify application information
• Establish, maintain, and update files, databases, records and documents for recurring internal reports
• Ensure that all applicant/borrower files are complete and in compliance with regulatory and internal policies
• Continually assess loan intake processes and systems to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to provide excellent customer service in person, on the phone and via email

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions
